Do you ever get that? Where you’re too tired to do anything, even get up and go to bed? That’s how I’m feeling at the moment. I have soup to eat, a glass to put in the sink, teeth to brush, nighttime vitamins to take, and a laptop to shut off, but I can’t find the energy to do any of that. Sigh. I am most definitely sleeping in tomorrow.

And by tomorrow I mean today, since it’s after midnight here on the east coast, and thus Saturday. Having school-aged children has really forced me into the routine of going to bed before midnight most days, so the nights I do stay up late like this tend to be kind of sucky!

Product reviews are nothing new. Companies have been partnering with consumers for the past several decades to get reviews — ideally good ones, of course — of products. What’s changed in this day and age is that many companies are now partnering with bloggers who manage product review and “mommy” type blogs. I happen to know of a few myself, including In My Bag and Mommy PR.

What types of products can you review on your blog? Well, if you have the type of blog and the demographics that an advertiser or company is looking for, you could potentially review any type of product! Some examples of actual products I’ve seen reviewed on blogs include:

  • Laptops and desktop computers
  • Video security systems
  • Cell phones
  • Digital cameras and photo printers
  • iPads and tablets
  • Beauty products
  • Baby products
  • Household and cleaning products
  • Home decor
  • Adult products and personal items

Really, there’s no limit to what could possibly be reviewed on a blog. The possibilities are endless!

Anyone can be a blogger, but what makes a blogger a good blogger? In my opinion, several things, including:

  • a passion for blogging – you can’t exactly blog about mens wedding bands unless you have a passion for the subject, right?
  • updating regularly – nothing saddens a blogger more than a neglected blog
  • a well-designed layout – whether it’s pre-made or something you’ve made on your own, it should look decent
  • an interest in their readers – finding out what your readers are saying will help you be a better blogger!
  • knowing how to do at least the very basics in HTML — if you can’t manually code in a link, then in my opinion you have no business blogging

I’ve been blogging for well over a decade now. While I am not the most expert blogger out there, I’m certainly well beyond the beginner stage, which is where these opinions come from. :)
