Browsing all articles in Blogging

I love blog memes! I check out The Daily Meme to see if any new memes are being added, and you should too since the list is frequently updated. But for the lazy ones, here’s a list of memes categorized by the day of the week:

Sunday: Sunday Seven

Monday: That’s My Answer!

Tuesday: Two 4 Tuesday

Wednesday: Wordless Wednesday

Thursday: 3x Thursday

Friday: Friday 5

Saturday: Saturday 9

Now what are you waiting for? Get to blogging!

As if blogging on its own isn’t enough to handle, then there’s search engine optimization, or SEO, to worry about. Unfortunately there is a lot to cover if we were to talk about SEO — so much, in fact, that I’d need to start up another blog just for the subject! Fortunately, a lot of SEO can be broken down into easy-to-follow tips. Here are three tips you can use to improve your blog’s SEO easily and painlessly:

  1. Use custom permaalinks that include your blog entry’s title or related keywords in them. For instance, note this blog entry’s URL. Rather than something like http://www.bestratedblog.com?p=237, it contains helpful keywords that search engines and human visitors alike can use to easily distinguish and classify this blog entry and presumably its content.
  2. Use relevant keywords as categories and tags for your post. For instance, a post about treating sick fish could be categorized under the category “Fish Health”, with the tag “illnesses”.
  3. Don’t neglect your metas! Make sure your meta content – title, keywords, description – contain relevant information about your blog.

While I am all about security updates, it seems like WordPress has been more than a little update-happy lately. Every time I turn around there’s a new update to install! But it pays to have an updated blog and a secure one, so while I’ll grumble about the frequent updates, I will ultimately go ahead and hit that annoying “Update” button whenever it appears.
